My April's 2020 favourites

Hello everyone! I have decided to take advantage of the quarantine to bring you a new post every month, in French or in English, about my favourites. I will tell you about my favorite movie, tv-show, YouTube channel, book, music artist… of the month. So here are my favourites of the month of April 2020!

Movie

The story takes place after World War II and is about the chase of Adolf Eichman, the German general who conceived the Holocaust and created the “Final Solution”. Throughout the film, a team of secret agents from the Mossad is going to build a plan and capture the general to bring him to Israel, where he will be tried. It is interesting how it focuses on Eichman’s personality. Although he is a Nazi war criminal, Eichman is not demonized in the movie. Instead, we see the evolution of his relationship with Peter Malkin (one of the spies) and how he is trying to convince the spy that he was just a simple man following orders. You can find this movie on Netflix. If you like historical films, I highly recommend it!

TV show

The TV show is about the Shelby family aka the Peaky Blinders who were British gangsters from Birmingham, England during the 20th century. The story focuses on how they climbed the ladder of English criminality. Thomas Shelby, the leader of the gang, is the main character and my favourite. It is fascinating to explore all facets of Thomas' complex personality shaped by his time in the war, his unorthodox profession, his loves, his addictions... Moreover, Cillian Murphy, who plays Thomas, is a perfect fit for the role. Another thing interesting about this TV show is that we can see how the British society was at that time with the cars, the clothes or the way of speaking, which I like very much. Although it can be violent and rough, I simply fell in love with this TV show. You can find it on Netflix and there are 5 seasons of 6 episodes.

YouTube Channel

Linh is an 18-year-old YouTuber I discovered recently. Her content is really varied since she makes videos about fashion, books, diaries, decoration, vlogs… She is very creative and always comes with aesthetic videos. I just love the whole Linh’s universe, which I would describe as cute, minimalist and vintage; I like the way she edits her video, the way she talks and the way she dresses. She recently started her own shop on Etsy where she sells stickers or prints, and she produces high quality work. I encourage you to look at her channel to see if you are charmed by her just like I am!

Instagram Account

I really like photographer’s accounts on Instagram and this one is just beautiful. Based in New York, Zarita Zevallos is the Haitian photographer behind this account. She shoots portraits through which she shows all the beauty of black bodies. She covers lots of subjects with her projects such as black masculinity, skin color or imprisonment. I do not know much about photography, but I admire her work. It is always a pleasure to go through her account, so I encourage you to do so!

Music

Celeste Epiphany Waite aka Celeste is an American-born British singer. She has released several albums and her last single is “Stop This Flame”. I would describe her music as a mix of jazz, soul and R&B, so her musical universe appeals to me very much. I love listening to her while studying or reading because her songs are soothing. My favorite song of her is “Both Sides of the moon” from the album of the same name released in 2018. The rhythm is slow and casual, the music is light so you can really hear how beautiful her voice is. I also really like “Chocolate” released in 2017 and “Ugly Thoughts” from 2019.
